Wonderful, literate, intelligent Forumites (and Wotan)
Every Year you probably make a NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
Every Year you probably Don't quiet make it to Dec 31st.
What say we have our very own Support Group where we will hold one another accountable and give moral support to each other in our strivings to follow through on our good intentions.
What say ye all??
My new years resolutions are as follows
1) Get my Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do by years end
2) Cycle the 250 mile race from St Louis To Kansas City that my Son was suckered into entering us both into - its in June and I am not ready
3) Cut down on the Marlboro's from having a quick one with two buddies to having a really quick one with only one buddy.
4) Read "Ivanhoe" - The German Version
5) Be nice to Wotan and continue to point out to him the error of his ways.

| Have not started to formulate my own list for 2004 yet ... but thought I'd mention that my son's resolution for 2003 was to clean his room. He started today and hopes to finish by tomorrow night. If he doesn't, I may not let him graduate to 2004. |

| Has he tried the judicious application of Napalm? Works wonders on the Hacienda when the Peasants clutter up the place!! |

| Napalm in the hands of my beloved son would be a BAD idea. He knows not the concept of "judicious application." |

I'll support you, El M! if you'll do the same for me - that entails being, among other things, a personal online WeightWatchers and Alcoholics Anonymous. OK?
Happy New Year! |

I don't think I've ever even made it to Jan 5th.
Oh well, here goes.
1) Write more. A story or article a week. Forum and email doesn't count.
2) Put up bookshelves, unpack books that've been sitting in boxes in spare room since I moved in 3 years ago.
Also acceptable: 2a) Get a boyfriend and make him do it.
Unfortunately this will probably involve making the otherwise optional 3rd resolution compulsory:
3) Improve social skills. Get a haircut, wear lipstick, flirt more. (Bleah!) Rocambole

I was going to start a thread about New Year's resolutions, Fantastico, I guess that's what you get for staying up too late and sleeping in. 1.) I need to drop 15 to 20 lbs. and exercise more....yesterday I ate a whole box of Fiddle Faddle in honor of the approach of Jan. 1st. 2.) I want to ride my horse more often in 2004. If I don't drop some weight she is going to put her ears sideways next time I climb on and say " one of you guys get off " 3.) I want to start and keep a journal including along with everyday things a list of books that I read and what I thought of them. 4.) I want to get the rooms painted in the house and do some other redecorating that I've planned to do. 5.) I want to finish my bog garden and plant a herb garden. You'll notice that these are everyday things to do. My New Year's resolutions are not deep or abstract in any way. Just stuff I need to do. 6.) Oh yeah, I need to get a job after I recover from my next surgery.......Or maybe I'll write a book (smile) 7.) Another one I almost forgot. I want to read more non-fiction books this year and continue to try new authors and types of books. seven is a lucky number I'll stop now

My resolution?
Sub-dominant to dominant seventh to tonic.
And make the last chord be Major, nor Minor. (Picardian)

Rocambole--
on the lipstick front: do you know they make pinky-brown chapstick? It is a new fav of mine. One doesn't have to be careful w/ the application as w/ ordinary lipstick... no mirror needed. fits easily into vest or pants pocket.
potential boyfriends look out!

Do, do start a journal. I have kept one since 1984 and it is a marvellous resource. It is not 'dear diary' stuff, but I write all sorts in it especially when I am travelling and big family events as it is suprising how quickly you forget things. I write down details of books that make an impression on me although it is not a complete record by any means. I buy a book at least A5 size with nice unlined paper and I often decorate the covers as well as the inside. I stick photo's, menu's, business cards and all sorts in it so spiral bound is good, but the best of all are leather bound ones with a tie to close them that I get in Sienna when I am there. You can get them here but they are very expensive in the UK. I often go to posh art shops or Department stores in the Sales and pick up a couple and people give them to me as gifts. A nice book is very important somehow. When I glance back at the old ones now 20 years old, it really takes me back in time, and it is amazing to see how different I am now and how I have developed. And of course it is a record of my children's development.
Even if you are not well enough to plant your garden or ride, you can curl up and write about what you are thinking and feeling. Let me know how you get on. Diana |

| I prefer lipgloss or stain anyway, so thanks. Incidentally, I bet I wasn't the only person watching LotR:RotK thinking that Eowyn-in-drag needed to wipe off that lipstick and grime up a bit if she was going to be even halfway convincing.... Rocambole

| I'm putting some journals on my shopping list. If I can find some I like I'd love to buy as many as I can afford so that they match-I'm a Virgo I can't help it. I kept a journal for a while many moons ago and often will bring it out and read it. I'm looking out my bedroom window now and the sun is shining, the hill acrosst from my house is snow covered and because the trees are bare I can see well up the hill. I got 8 eggs from my chickens this morning. A journal is going to be wonderful. |

Ways to avoid 2a) and 3): look in the yellow pages/newsagent's window and find an odd-job man. Cheaper in the long run.
Happy New Year! |

Wow! Yours are so similar to mine! The 'develop more social skills' in particular, although I've already started a bit with that ... you know, getting a running start. I would add in the suggestion of others about keeping a journal, I just need to come up with a clever way to do it, because I'm a bit of a lazy writer (although a good writer). Also:
*convince my short, stubby fingers that they can do an Emaj chord on the ukulele ... as one uke-ophile says on his web site, "ya gotta learn it sometime!"
*stop being my own worst critic
