Looking for mass market paperback William MacLeod Raine western novel with following features:

* 1 or 2 men on horseback on hill (at standstill, looking at distance)

* Think published by "Pine" paperback books

Remember having this book around 1959 or 1960.

Anyone have any ideas on the name???

Thanks,  Zenda

They may have been published with more than one cover.  Perhaps have a look here and see if any of the titles ring a bell.

Note: there is an extra E on the end of Raine. It won't come up in searches if you leave it off. Computers are literal beasties! Lol!

  Good Luck!

Thanks again for the pictorial feast of William MacLeod Raine books, didn't find my quest; it was 50 years ago, maybe I'm remembering wrong..will keep alert though as it is a nagging desire to find the book.

Zenda:

Many of those old westerns, especially those by popular authors (Raine, Rumford, etc) went through many printings. In the thirties, forties, and early fifties paperbacks were smaller, especially their longest dimension (the height of the cover). Between the late fifties and the mid sixties all of the publishers went to the taller format we see today. Do you remember if your book was "old form" or "new form?" The reason I ask is that our largest local used bookstore recently bought a collection of old pbs, including quite a few mysteries and westerns. I bought some of the old Dell "map-backs" including, I believe, several by Raine. They are now boxed and in storage, awaiting new shelving, but I'll dig through them if you think that what you are seeking is that old.

Rocket_Scientist,

It was definately the taller "new form"...dominant color was, I believe, brown and/or green.

Thank you so much for your response and interest.

Zenda
